        I built the shelf above out of PVC pipe to store my Lego collection which I sort into 14 categories (I don't have the patience to go further). I prefer to have large containers with a lot of surface area so I can dig around and find the pieces I need. The container visible on the bottom of the picture is a Sterilite 39" X 22" X 6" (70 Quarts). The categories are as follows;
  1. Minfigs and accessories (weapons, tools, etc)
  2. Slopes
  3. Rounds (rockets, radar dishes, etc)
  4. Bricks (2 by 4, etc)
  5. Animals, Plants, and technics
  6. 1 by X plates
  7. 2 by X plates
  8. 3+ by X plates (wings, etc)
  9. Baseplates and roads
  10. Transparent and Technic (canopies, windows, etc)
  11. Thin wall pieces (castle walls, BURPs, etc)
  12. Doors and windows
  13. Boats and sails
  14. Miscellaneous (basically everything that doesn't fit in the above)
  15. Cardboard box for evil Lego Clones (Tyco, Megablocks), yuck!
